Discipleship Bible Studies

In Matthew 28:19–20, we read about the Great Commission, when Jesus directed His disciples to “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” Bishop David K. Bernard reinforces this directive from Jesus by stating that “...discipleship needs to be part of the culture of the church. It's not just for new converts… [but rather it is] for everybody. We have to have a strong teaching ministry that will ground…. people in the truth… that will give them life skills according to biblical principles.” You are never too old, too young, too new in faith, or too perfected to learn and grow in Christ. There is always more to discover, and always a need for the elder to teach the younger. In order to have strong healthy churches, we must build strong healthy saints. The best way to do this is through discipleship. The Pentecostal Publishing House has some amazing discipleship Bible studies to support this essential mandate that comes from Jesus Himself. Be sure to take a look and find something to benefit your church or small group study.

Once you have an understanding of what the Great Commission is, you will need some tools to better guide you on how to effectively carry it out. Don’t just look up “Bible Study on Discipleship” online! The Pentecostal Publishing House offers an innovative way to ground new believers through a discipleship curriculum called Elements. With modules on topics such as foundational Bible doctrines, relationships, life skills, and holiness, this resource is a perfect tool for walking through essential beliefs and practices of Apostolic curriculum. Elements takes the guesswork out of discipleship training, with lessons that will help strengthen your church as you delve into each topic.

Additionally PPH offers a premium tool for ongoing discipleship. This discipleship study is called God’s Word for Life. It provides study tools based on foundational passages of Scripture and guides believers of all ages in applying that truth to their lives. With daily devotions, lesson guides, and resource kits, this comprehensive system offers everything needed for ongoing study for lifelong discipleship. Similarly, there is a fully Apostolic digital curriculum that is perfect for all ages, called “The Discipleship Project.” This was designed to make discipleship a key aspect of the life and ministry of any church.

If the church is to survive and grow, Jesus made it clear as part of the Great Commission that teaching is not optional. Churches must teach, train, and develop new converts and seasoned saints alike. This is more than just through a one-time Bible study. Discipleship is a process that leads saints through attraction to the church; conversion through the new birth; and internalizing the teaching of what it means to live a Christian life, pursue holiness, and grow into maturity in their relationship with Jesus.

Whether you are interested in just one discipleship Bible study, several discipleship Bible studies, or would like to delve into an entire discipleship system like Elements, the Pentecostal Publishing House has the materials that you need.

Frequently Asked Questions About Discipleship Bible Studies

  1. How is a discipleship Bible study different from a regular Bible study?
    1. A regular Bible study is typically an overview of the Bible, plan of salvation and God’s plan for humanity. Discipleship Bible studies focus on developing mature Christians for a strong, healthy church, ready for the return of Christ.
  2. Who are the discipleship Bible studies for?
    1. Everyone! New converts, growing believers, and even mature saints. There is always more to learn.
  3. Which study should I start with?
    1. For a brand-new convert, it’s best to start with a basic study, then progress to a structured program like Elements.
  4. I’m getting ready to teach Elements at my church. Do I need both the leader and participant’s guide?
    1. Yes. Having the participant’s guide allows for a better experience for those you are teaching.
  5. Are these discipleship studies available in multiple formats?
    1. Yes, there are electronic and paper versions of several studies. The Discipleship Project is a great digital tool if electronic format is what you prefer.
  6. Can I purchase student handbooks?
    1. Yes, some of the studies have student handbooks for better retention of the study material.
  7. Are any of the studies meant for personal study, or perhaps one-on-one teaching?
    1. Yes, there are books available for personal growth, as well as studies specifically for teaching others in large or small groups.
  8. Can I build a full discipleship pathway using a combination of these materials?
    1. Yes, setting up a full training pathway is easy using Bible studies to explain the basics, then moving to lesson-based plans like Elements, and finally an ongoing curriculum like God’s Word for Life. Check out all of our studies and find a perfect plan for your church.
