Every person, regardless of his or her station in life, has the God-given potential to be something more than they currently are. We are all aware of this at some level. We know that God has created us for more—more holiness, more fruitfulness, better relationships, less guilt, fewer regrets. We instinctively know that we have unrealized potential, regardless of how much progress we may already have made. God could do more in us, with us, and through us if we were more fully available to him and more fully saturated with his Holy Spirit. This truth is not for pastors only. Every believer has the potential to grow, to become more like Christ and more effective in his Kingdom. And it isn’t true only of new believers. No matter how long a person has walked with the Lord, he or she has room—and responsibility—to keep seeking, keep growing. Spiritual growth is not a course of study that ends with graduation. You will be growing in Christ for all eternity. And one of the great tragedies of our day is that so many Christians ignore or defer both the need and opportunity to be transformed by the Spirit of God. You were made for more.
